Samantha Marie Chan (Auburnskye) has always loved art as a child, but it was only in 2007, that she took a 3-month oil painting course at NAFA and met Mr Low Kim Chit, and proceeded to take more lessons from him over a year. This started her real love for canvas painting.
Fast forward to 2017, almost a decade later - she found herself burnt out at work, wondering what she could do in life, and decided to revisit painting. Since then, she has found greater fulfillment in life, firstly through reconnecting with her love for painting from her younger days, and second, she sees art now as a means to know herself and discover new ways of thinking. Art challenges her to see if she can do something differently each time she starts on a new piece.
Besides the challenges, it is also pleasure. She finds herself wanting to capture the beauty of a scene, just like photography – to immortalise it. She doesn’t quite believe that art must always have a message, to her it is simply capturing beauty for beauty’s sake. Now working as a freelance social media marketeer, Samantha makes time in between and dabble with acrylic and watercolour. Her art style is realistic and she loves the interplay of light and shadow, as well as scenes of nature. She believes that by sharing her love for art, she can inspire others with the joy and beauty that art brings. It’s an identity she’d like to grow old with.
